Montreal, February 25, 2021 – The Biobanque québécoise de la COVID-19 (BQC19) is proud to announce the recruitment of the 2500th participant. Recruitment began in April 2020 and has steadily increased ever since. This represents an important milestone for research into COVID-19 by providing essential data and biological specimens to study SARS-CoV-2 infection mechanisms, leading to a better understanding of COVID-19 causes and severity.
The recruitment of each participant to the BQC19 requires the concerted effort of many healthcare workers and research teams in order to collect biological material and clinical data coming from individuals infected or not with SARS-CoV-2. This collective effort represents more than a thousand hours of work invested by each institution participating to the BQC19. In addition to contributing to the development of scientific discoveries, the samples and data of participants help clinicians and researchers to:
Improve understanding of COVID-19
Stimulate the development of new treatment options
Generate deeper knowledge of the immune response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus
BQC19 wants to thank every participant who voluntary accepted to donate biological samples and to share medical data in order to support research projects on COVID19, therefore contributing significantly to the advancement of scientific knowledge.
