THE BIOBANQUE QUÉBÉCOISE DE LA COVID-19 REACHES 5000 PARTICIPANTS

The Biobanque québécoise de la COVID-19 (BQC19) is proud to announce the recruitment of its 5000th participant. Since its inception in March 2020, the number of participants in the BQC19 has continued to grow. This is an important milestone in the development of research into the evolution of the pandemic as researchers use the data and biological specimens collected to investigate the mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection and the causes of COVID-19 and its severity.

The recruitment of each BQC19 participant requires the concerted effort of many health care workers and research teams to collect biological material and clinical data from individuals with and without COVID-19. This collective effort represents tens of thousands of hours of work invested by teams from each BQC19 partner institution. In addition to contributing to the growth of scientific discoveries, the samples and data from BQC19 participants will enable clinicians and researchers to:

  • Improve understanding of COVID-19, including long-term manifestations of the disease

  • Stimulate the development of new therapeutic options

  • Understand the immune response to SARS-CoV-2

The BQC19 team would like to thank all the participants who have voluntarily agreed to donate their biological specimens and share their medical data to enable research projects on COVID-19 and contribute significantly to the advancement of knowledge.
